分譯：介詞短語作定語時，往往是定語從句的一種簡略形式。介詞短語作狀語時，有時是狀語從句的簡略形式。有些介詞短語還是并列句的簡略形式。因此漢譯時，有的可以拆句分譯。

①譯成并列分句。

The porous wall acts as a kind of seine for separating molecules.多孔壁的作用就象一把篩子，它把不同質(zhì)量的分子分開。

②譯成讓步分句。

With all its disadvantages this design is cidered to be one of the best.這個設(shè)計盡管有種種缺點，仍被認(rèn)為1佳設(shè)計之一。

④譯成原因分句。

We cannot see it clearly for the fog.由于有霧，我們看不清它。

The machine is working none the worse for its long service.

這部機器并不因使用的時間長而性能變差了。

⑤譯成目的分句。

This body of knowledge is customarily divided for convenience of study into the classificati： mechanics， heat， light， electricity and sound.。為了便于研究起見，通常將這門學(xué)科分為力學(xué)、熱學(xué)、光學(xué)、電學(xué)和聲學(xué)。同時，***化也無形中把整個世界聯(lián)系在一起，充分體現(xiàn)著各國、各民族“你中有我、我中有你”的緊密聯(lián)系的特點，從而促進(jìn)***各國人民之間的理解、溝通、合作和交流。

譯成漢語的被動語態(tài)

　　英語中的許多被動句也可以翻譯成漢語的被動句，句中經(jīng)常使用漢語中表示被動意義的一些標(biāo)志詞，如“被”、“給”、“遭”、“挨”、“為……所”、“使”、“由……”、“受到”等。例如：

　　1）These signals are produced by colliding stars or nuclear reacti in outer space.

　　這些訊號是由外層空間的星球碰撞或者核反應(yīng)所造成的。

　　2）Over the years, tools and technology themselves as a source of fundamental innovation h***e largely been ignored by historians and philosophers of science.

　　多年來，工具和技術(shù)本身作為根本性創(chuàng)新的源泉在很大程度上被科學(xué)史學(xué)家和科學(xué)思想家們忽視了。

　　3）For a long period to come, most of China’s elderly will continue to be provided for by their families.

　　在未來很長的一段時間里，中國的老年人仍舊要由他們的家庭來贍養(yǎng)。

科技文章中經(jīng)常使用若干特定的句型，從而形成科技文體區(qū)別于其他文體的標(biāo)志。例如It——that——結(jié)構(gòu)句型；被動態(tài)結(jié)構(gòu)句型；結(jié)構(gòu)句型，分詞短語結(jié)構(gòu)句型，省略句結(jié)構(gòu)句型等。
